Alex started out playing bass with, traditional and modern, jazz bands in Glasgow in nineteen-canteen. While working abroad, he was co-opted into a folk group and on his return to Scotland he met Elenor and Lorna at Dunblane Folk Club and played his first gig with them a week later, after one rehearsal, surrounded by talented multi-instrumentalists, his catch-phrase:

“I just play bass, man!”
